Ofcom fines Takbeer TV Ltd £25,000 for breach

On 21 January 2013 Takbeer TV, which broadcasts religious and general entertainment content for the Sunni Muslim community in the UK and abroad, was found in breach of Rules 4.1 and 4.2 for abusive material  towards the Ahmadi community and their beliefs.

The Rules state that “broadcasters must “exercise the proper degree of responsibility with respect to the content of programmes which are religious programmes” and “the religious views and beliefs of those belonging to a particular religion or religious denomination must not be subject to abusive treatment.” Hence the hefty fine.

It’s not the first Ofcom sanction of broadcast content involving anti Ahmadi abuse.
